Codes Of Conduct

The USYSA (United States Youth Soccer Association) has adopted Codes of Conduct for parents, coaches, and players. It is intended to provide a clear understanding of the type of sport that the association will support and conversely "not support". The Fullerton Rangers is affiliated with USYSA and has adopted these guidelines for it's membership.

PARENT'S CODE:

# Children have more need of example than criticism.

# Make athletic participation for your child and others a positive experience.

# Attempt to relieve pressure of competition, not increase it. A child is easily affected by outside influences.

# Be kind to your children’s coach. The coach is a volunteer giving of personal time and money to provide a recreational activity for your child. The coach is providing a valuable community service, often without reward other than the personal satisfaction of having served the community.

# The opponents are necessary friends. Without them your child could not participate.

# Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team.

# Accept the results of each game. Encourage the child:
1. To be gracious in victory, and
2. To turn defeat to victory by working towards improvement.

# Be respectful to the officials at all games. They are there to ensure the safety of all the players and to enforce the rules of soccer. They are there because we need them. Please don’t abuse them.

COACH'S CODE:

# Soccer is a game for happiness.

# The Laws of Soccer should be regarded as mutual agreements, the spirit or letter of, which no one should try to evade or break.

# Visiting teams and spectators are honored guests.

# No advantages except those of superior skill should be sought.

# Officials and opponents should be treated and regarded as honest of intention.

# Official's decisions should be accepted without looking angry no matter how unfair they may seem.

# Winning is desirable, but winning at any cost defeats the purpose of the game. ("Players First, Winning Second!")

# Losing can be a triumph when the team has given its best.

# The ideal is the greatest good to the greatest number.

# In soccer, as in life, treat others with respect.

When the individual accepts the responsibility to coach a team, he/she accepts a responsibility to the team, to the players, to their parents, to the Club, to the Association, and to the sport. Their responsibility in helping kids to have fun and learn about soccer, team spirit, and competition is a challenging task. The coach's impact on the players is rivaled only by that of the parent, and in some circumstances, it surpasses that influence. A good coach is many things; he/she is a father/mother, educator, friend, disciplinarian, and psychologist to the players. Give the coaches the respect they deserve.

PLAYER'S CODE:

# Play the game for the game’s sake.

# Be generous when you win. Be graceful when you lose.

# Be fair always no matter what the cost.

# Obey the Laws of the Game. Work for the good of the team.

# Accept the decisions of the officials/referees with good grace. Believe in the honesty of your opponents.

# Conduct yourself with honor and dignity.

# Honestly and wholeheartedly applaud the efforts of your teammates and your opponents.

In addition to the aforementioned Codes, the FRYSC adopted the following Codes for Referees:

REFEREE'S CODE:

# Always remember that the game is for the players. Player safety and fair play come first.

# Study and learn the laws of the Game and understand the "spirit" of the Laws. Help fellow referees do the same.

# Encourage the USYS philosophies of everyone plays, positive coaching, and good sportsmanship.

# Respect other referees' decisions and do not publicly criticize another official.

# Wear the proper uniform and keep it in good condition.

# Maintain good physical condition so you can keep up with the action.

# Stay calm when confronted with emotional reactions from players, coaches and parents.

# Honor accepted game assignments. In an emergency, find a replacement.

# Support good sportsmanship with a kind word to players, coaches and parents of both teams when deserved.

# Always be fair and impartial, avoiding conflicts of interest. Decisions based on personal bias are dishonest and unacceptable.

These codes are important to the Fullerton Rangers and should be adhered to by all. Occasionally, these codes are not complied with and, unfortunately, a Trial Board Committee must be convened to evaluate the conduct of a player, coach, parent, or referee. Sometimes decisions are made that are not popular but are deemed necessary to maintain the type of conduct and integrity our club seeks. The cooperation of every participant and spectator is expected and appreciated.
