Guidelines For Under 6 And Under 7
The Fullerton Rangers has organized micro soccer for this division as recommended by U.S. Youth Soccer for many years. Every year changes are made in an effort to improve the quality of soccer for the youngsters. The Board would like to take this opportunity to explain the objectives of micro soccer, the rules of the game, and the proper parent responsibilities as noted in your FRYSC Handbook and the coach’s packet of information: MICRO SOCCER OBJECTIVES - Have fun while learning the game of soccer.
- Establish a non-competitive atmosphere amongst all teams.
- Teach the players basic skills and basic rules of the game.
- PLAY SOCCER.
MICRO SOCCER GAME RULES - All games will start on the hour. Coaches need to have the players ready to play. Teams will be warmed up away from the field, approximately ½ hour prior to game time to allow games to start on their scheduled times. If all the players are not present, the game shall begin with both teams playing short-sided until additional players arrive
- Games are organized so that each team is split into two 4 v 4 games on adjacent fields.
- Coaches and assistant coaches direct and referee the games on each field.
- Game length will be as follows:
- The game will consist of four 10-minute quarters.
- A 2-minute break will be taken between quarters 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. During the break the players should stay on or near the field unless substituted.
- An approximately 5-minute half-time break.
- Scores are not recorded! This is clinic level soccer, not World Cup. The players need to have fun and have an enjoyable experience. When they advance to under 9 they will begin to experience a greater level of challenge and competition.
- It is the coach’s responsibility to keep the games evenly matched in terms of skill level and ability. The coach may need to make adjustments on the field that may seem unusual but it is because he/she is attempting to provide an evenly matched game. Please do not distract the coach with unnecessary questions or advice during the game.
MICRO SOCCER GAME RULE EXCEPTIONS - There are FIFA exceptions because this is micro soccer. The referee will briefly explain infractions to the players. In addition, the following will apply:
- Throw-ins will be retaken until done correctly.
- No cautions (yellow card) or ejection’s (red card) will be issued to players.
- Players will be warned of dangerous play and kicking, pushing, tripping, charging, or hitting other players.
- Fouls & misconduct will result in an indirect free kick, not a penalty kick or direct kick.
- Handballs will not be called every time. Many players are first time players.
- There will be no off-side calls.
- Substitutions may occur at any time, however, it is recommended that it occur during the following times:
- A throw-in only when you have possession.
- A goal kick for either side.
- To begin a quarter or the second half.
- A goal for either side.
- To replace an injured player.
- No-one is allowed to stand behind the goals.
PARENT RESPONSIBILTIES - Please arrive early to keep the games running on time.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship and have fun. Children have more need of example than criticism.
- Make POSITIVE calls to ALL players on the field.
- Profanity is strictly forbidden.
- Enjoy and encourage the activity of the youngsters.
- After the game, players and coaches shake hands.
- Ask the coach if they need any assistance during practices or the game.
- Keep the fields clean. After the game, pick-up your belongings as well as any trash left on the field. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted.
Again, the FRYSC hopes you and your child have an enjoyable and positive experience playing soccer. Thank you for your cooperation. If you should have any questions, please contact your Division Commissioner.
