Q.When is registration and how will I be notified?
A.Registration for the Fall season is held in April. Look for notices sent home from school, banners across Fullerton, postcards in the mail, and the website for more details.
Q.What is Spring Soccer?
A. Spring soccer is for the player who wants to play fun and friendly games on Sunday afternoons in the Spring. There are no practices, no standings, just fun, organized soccer. All games have a referee, and coaches primarily are there for organizing the team and making substitutions. Look for registration information in the Fall Fry Flash and on our website.
Q.When does the Fall season start?
A.Teams can start practicing the first week of August, with the first game of the season starting the Saturday after Labor Day, with a “City Cup tournament starting after the last game of the season. For most teams, soccer ends before Christmas. All Star play and Commissioner’s Cup may extend the season for some teams into January.
Q.When are the teams formed?
A.Teams are formed in Mid-June. The coaches will notify your child of their placement sometime in July.
Q.How are teams formed?
A.Most teams are formed by a “blind draft” procedure. The exception is the older teams, (division 1, 2 & 3 – 12 thru 19 year olds) which are selected in an “open draft” procedure. In younger divisions (age 8 and younger), commissioners form teams based on parent’s requests made at the time of registration or geographical location.
Q.Why does my child have to attend a rating session for recreation teams?
A.All new players to our league (and ALL Division 3 players) must attend a “rating” session, where they are assigned a rating based on their ability to play soccer. When the teams are formed, they are balanced to ensure that each team has an equal amount of like rated players. At the rating sessions for Division 3, the coaches will have an opportunity to see every player. This is important as this division selects the teams in an “open draft” format.
Q.How can my child “play up” in the next higher division?
A.Whether in recreation or Signature league, a play-up request form must be submitted by the last day of registration, with the previous coach’s recommendation. The player must then go to a rating session for the age group that he/she wishes to play in. The Board of Directors reviews all requests and notifies players if the play-up is granted.
Q.What is “club” soccer?
A.Our club program provides some of the best coaching and skill development in Southern California for the player who wants higher competition. We support a team in each age bracket, both boys and girls, to compete with other teams from Southern California. Some travel and financial commitment is required. These teams are selected through a tryout with each team. More information can be found by contacting the coach of each team.
Q.What is this Cal South Signature League?
A.This playing circuit has been developed to provide a transition between recreation and Club soccer. Teams are selected through a tryout with each team. Children first need to register in the recreation program (late registrants who are not accepted on a team will go on the recreation league wait list). Additional, but limited fees will apply if selected. Teams will play with Signature teams in the local playing circuit.
Q.How are coaches selected?
A.All of our coaches are volunteers that express their desire to coach by notifying the Director of Coaches. They are required to fill out a “Risk Management Form” and get clearance by our State Association. Each coach must be fingerprinted by the State Association. Safety of our players is #1. Most coaches are parents like you that want to spend time with their children.
Q.What if I do not know a lot about soccer?
A.No problem, as we can provide you with the necessary information and training to make this season fun and rewarding for all.
Q.Where will my player practice and play?
A.It depends on the age and who the coach is. Generally, the teams practice close to where the coach lives. The games are played at various schools and parks within Fullerton. Practices are limited to two 1-1/2 hour sessions per week.
Q.Can we switch teams after they are formed? What if I cannot make the times or days the coach chooses?
A.The league policy is that no switches can be accommodated. Due to the large number of players and teams, it would be impossible to run the league with any success. We do however allow players to be removed from the team they were assigned and placed on the waiting list. If a team needs a player with a similar rating as your child, it may be possible for them to be placed on that team. However, there is no guarantee that this situation would be any better. Wait list players are not guaranteed a place on a team; they will only be placed if an opening arises. Historically, teams have worked together to provide transportation where needed.
Q.If things don’t work out, can I get a refund?
A.A written request is required. 100% refunds will be granted up to June 1, 50% refund until August 15. No refunds after August 15.
Q.What is the wait list?
A.The wait list is where we put players that register after the cut off date for guaranteeing a player’s placement on a team. This list does not ensure that your child will play. We use this list to replace players that drop out of our league, and can place players as late as October 15.
Q.What equipment do I need for my children to play soccer?
A.Each player will receive a uniform (shorts, socks and jersey). You will need to supply your player with a pair of soccer shoes (with molded studs or cleats – no toe cleat is allowed), shin guards, and a ball. These can be purchased at most sporting goods stores, or soccer stores. Be sure to see the flyers available today.
Q.Why must each team provide a referee?
A. All games in divisions 1-6 are officiated by a USSF referee and linesmen, and cannot proceed with them. To keep our registration costs down, these referees come from within the FRYSC membership. FRYSC hosts a number of referee clinics to train adults and teens to referee to provide the skills needed. Referees are paid for the games they officiate!
Q.What is the Fullerton Rangers Summer Soccer Camp?
A.It is an opportunity for your children (ages 5 -12) to experience the fun of soccer. At this camp the players are exposed to the basics and the game and are taught to enjoy the game. This camp is separate from the regular season and is entirely optional.
Q.Want to volunteer?
A.FRYSC is a non-profit organization, run by volunteers who are parents, many of whom have full time jobs. Positions needed include Board of Directors, Commissioners, Coaches, Team Parents, and a number of team positions. If you want to help, call your Coach, Commissioner, or board member.
Q.Where can I find out all there is to know about the Fullerton Rangers, now and during the season?
Always check the league’s website at www.frysc.org or www.eteamz.com/frysc to find out what is happening with games, the weather, etc. The FRYSC Handbook is your best source for information for all the rules and regulations that the league must follow. There are many useful phone numbers of all the commissioners and Board of Directors, too. Make sure you have one of these valuable books (provided at registration). During the Fall, a weekly newspaper, the FryFlash, provides important notices as well as team stories, and sponsor lists.
Keep in mind, the first place to go with a question during the season is your coach, then the commissioner of your division. Please call them first! If all other sources fail to produce an answer, call the FRYSC Information line at 526-3772.
